Bacon and Leek Tart

After that beef rice bowl I ate last Saturday, I was still hungry. Baker & Cook, a bakery was on my way home, so I ate this delicious tart.

They had sold out of their spinach and feta tart, which sounded better, as much as I love bacon.

I’ll have to return for breakfast. They make all kind of nice treats here. It’s just outside Bugis Junction.

Triple Bacon Burger

Yeah, that’s right. Not a mere three pieces of bacon (which is wonderful) but slices of bacon, bacon jam and baconnaise.

It was the best burger by far I’ve eaten in this city-state.

Lettuce and tomato slices were also used in the making of this magnificent sandwich. The meat was cooked medium which meant wonderful drippings of fat pooled onto the plate, which I then sopped up with the fries.

I also loved the fried garlic chips sprinkled on the fries.

I drank a pint of Lost Coast, a craft beer from Eureka, California.

Wildfire Burgers is located where Malone’s used to be at 313 Somerset.

Soft Shelled Crab Sliders

I ate these a couple of weeks ago at The Beast, an American food restaurant specializing in Southern food. They were tasty, on small buns with mayonnaise and lettuce. The ones I had in Sydney were much better.

The cheese dip is good comfort food. There are pimentos mixed in the cheese and the candied bacon is delicious.

Big Breakfast

I was in a Western-breakfast hankering mood and I found myself at Podi, in Raffles City, the mall above the City Hall MRT station.

It’s a good breakfast: poached eggs, sausage, chorizo, bacon, spinach brioche toast and a tasty side salad. I realized what would have made this plate much better is butter. The eggs were strangely tasteless.

The fresh orange juice comes in a big glass.

I’ll definitely return, but I won’t get the Big Breakfast. They have much better dishes.

Pimento Cheese Dip with Candied Bacon

A colleague had been talking about pork belly the other day so I headed over to The Beast, the southern American restaurant near Bugis. It’s pretty close to the Sultan Mosque, now that I think about it.

That is a work of art! Cheese mixed with red peppers and then garnished with two strips of candied bacon.

I started off with a bacon shot. Bacon flavored bourbon served with a garnish of….bacon.

Freshly Squeezed IPA has a nice citrus note.

The buffalo wings with Insane level sauce were great. They were spicy as fuck and I’m suffering for eating them today.

Hipster American bar food does not come cheap in Singapore.

Fried Chicken and a Waffle

This can be had at The Beast, a self-titled Southern Kitchen and Bourbon bar near Bugis. Located on Jalan Klapa, there is indoor and outdoor seating.

I started off with an IPA from California that I had never tried before called Fresh Squeezed IPA, which had some citrus notes.

The corn bread was a little too cake-like for me. I prefer it to be a little coarser in texture. The taste was good.

I didn’t want to get wasted, but the bacon-flavored bourbon with the candied bacon chaser was very nice.

That was half of a chicken, deboned and fried perfectly. Hands down, this is the best fried chicken I’ve had in Singapore and the best I’ve had in eons. Marinated in buttermilk, the exterior was perfectly crunchy and the meat, juicy and succulent. With the syrup it was absolutely delicious.
